Women In Film:  Our Palm Springs Chapter is very active and successful!  We host
Oscar Night America as a fundraiser held locally last year at the lovely Viceroy Resort
in Palm Springs and this year at the Hyatt Grand Champions, Indian Wells.    PSWIFT
was one of only a handful of groups selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts &
Sciences to host a fundraiser as an officially sanctioned Oscar viewing party!  We
launched our "Broken Glass Awards" luncheon, which took place on November 7,
2008 at the Hyatt Grand Champions honoring Gena Rowlands, Rozene Supple,
Donna Mills and Jennifer and Suzanne Todd of TEAM TODD (Producers; Alice In
Wonderland).  Our second annual Broken Glass Awards ceremony took place on
Saturday March 6, 2010 at the La Quinta Resort to honor four extraordinary women
who have smashed through the glass ceiling, paving the way for others in the
entertainment industry and the arts; Barbara Sinatra, Lindsay Wagner, Gale Anne
Hurd and Denise DuBarry Hay.  www.pswift.org

Cathy Teal www.firebrand-design.com and I published a profitable Tribute
Journal for this event.  Cathy did the design and production and I did the
telling and selling until the last minute.  We both write and edit.  Cathy has a
classic masters' eye for art, photography and typography and I have GREAT
lists and assertive, energetic passion for the gig.  Lots of experience between
the two of us and we love what we do!  Cathy had to add forms up until the
deadline!  Meaning, we were very successful in selling lots of ads!  Let us
show you our portfolios and give you a complimentary consultation for
your special event or charity gala.  We can promise you a profit center with
the magazine/tribute journal/programme that we publish for you!

Blue Moxie  Entertainment and Kaswit, Inc.  Wrote various materials for Blue
Moxie's "Shoot The Hero" feature film and Kaswit's "The Secret to Training the Perfect

Palm Springs International Film Festival
Talk about a signature event! psfilmfest.org  This is the big daddy of them all!  Sonny
Bono founded it 20 years ago, and Festival Director Darryl Macdonald has brought it
to the top of the most important Film Festivals in existence!  I have been privileged to
sell advertising for the PSIFF Program Books since 2006.  This last January, we paid
tribute to Ron Howard, Anne Hathaway, Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, Sean Penn,
Dakota Fanning among others at our Black Tie Awards Gala!   We had over 120,000
attendees over two weeks to view over 200 films.

Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce Golf Cart Parade
I sold sponsorships for this annual, wildly popular Coachella Valley signature
fundraising event; proceeds went to SafeHouse of the Desert.  Tons 'o fun for the
    entire family!

Palm Springs Life ~ California's Prestige Magazine I was hired to solicit new
business; built territory from zero to $500K.  I was responsible for selling print
advertising into the Desert’s only audited, four-color lifestyle city magazine.
Categories included all industries including financial, hospitality, medical, restaurants,
art galleries, retail home improvement, jewelry, real estate, attractions and interior
design.

I assumed a previously dormant sales position with no existing business and
developed strategies to pursue overlooked prospects.  I was in charge of special
issue development including medical guide, tourism guide, home supplement, small
space ads, annual edition and once-a-year city reports.

I created original, issue-specific publicity materials and sales presentations for ad
sales, marketing and circulation departments and developed promotional events for
    prospective advertisers.

Launched Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre at Antigua, his drug and alcohol
rehabilitation facility in the West Indies. Coordinated publicity; booked Today Show,
60 Minutes, Time Magazine, and dozens of newspapers, magazines and local TV
interviews.   Goal was to attempt to influence the press members to focus on Mr.
Clapton's sincere interest in providing a safe haven for those needing to restart their
lives; not on his "Rock-God-ness"!

Hollywood Tribute Journals I co-published or sold:

HRTS (Hollywood Radio and TV Society)
AFI (American Film Institute)
ATAS (Academy of TV Arts and Sciences)
WIF (Women In Film)
AWRT (American Women in Radio and TV)
LAPC (Los Angeles Press Club)
ACE (American Cinema Editors)

The Hollywood Reporter.  I spent six years at the oldest, daily Hollywood trade
paper as an advertising manager, coordinating monthly special issues.  I opened over
twenty new markets and published over thirty profitable special reports for very happy
film commissioner clients.  Had lots 'o fun, met tons 'o fancy folks and learned lots 'o
secrets and magic formulas!

Other publications where I held a senior sales position: American Film
Magazine, Variety’s On Production Magazine, Film & Video Magazine, Image
Magazine (for the Broadcasting Promotion and Marketing trade group known as
BPME/Promax) and EMMY Magazine.

I had an extraordinarily enlightening stint as the interim Executive Director
of The Los Angeles Press Club.  In addition to co-publishing their Tribute Journal, I
administered their budget, created membership-building campaigns, conducted a site-
search for a new headquarters, ran monthly meetings and co-produced two of their
annual Southern California Journalism Awards Dinners.

LOVE YOUR DOG, BUT FRUSTRATED WITH DISOBEDIENT BEHAVIOR?  by Janet L. Spiegel

Don’t give away – or give up - on your wild canine, keep your dog; here’s how.
Turn nightmarish canine behavior into perfect doggy manners.  You can empower yourself to unleash
the true potential that lies within your dog.

Don Sullivan remembers the childhood nightmare he experienced when his dad came home one day with the
family Beagle puppy in his arms, bloody and limp. The puppy had escaped the house and was hit by a car. The
hit was fatal.

“My beautiful Border Collie became increasingly aggressive and he actually bit a youngster, which was horribly
disturbing,” said
Denise DuBarry Hay, La Quinta, California filmmaker-entrepreneur.  “We were
devastated to have to give him away, after undergoing several months and thousands of dollars of worthless
‘treat training’.  Three weeks later I met Don Sullivan, The DogFather.”

Now, DuBarry Hay is delighted to be associated with Sullivan, as the producer of his “Secrets to Training the
Perfect Dog” DVD series (
www.theperfectdog.com).  Together they have been filming new and instant
behavioral transformations to update their program, inviting local dog owners from the Coachella Valley to
participate.

Bolting, biting, digging, jumping, barking. . . .  Oh My!  Call The DogFather for help!
Back when Sullivan experienced the trauma with his childhood Beagle, he did not know it was possible to train
his beloved little dog to respect boundaries. Now he knows otherwise and one of his key missions as "The
DogFather" is to empower dog owners worldwide to train their canine companions to stay safe.
Sullivan has been a professional animal trainer and dog behaviorist since 1986. His experience includes work
with killer whales, sea lions and seals at an aquarium in Victoria, British Columbia.   Sullivan’s vision as a
professional trainer is to not just train dogs. He seeks to transform the lives of dogs and their owners into
positive relationships based on respect and freedom. Don’s training System is a step-by-step method, using an
effective combination of love and discipline, to create the perfect relationship with your dog.

DuBarry Hay and Sullivan have produced over twenty DogFather short stories to watch on
YouTube,
highlighting the enormous success that Sullivan has achieved with an extensive range of
frustratingly problematic dogs, from a little Yorkshire Terrier to a shaggy Italian Spinone. Here are titles of
some of the clips:
  • Don Sullivan The DogFather Cures Chaotic 4 Month Old Golden Retriever Puppy
  • Don Sullivan The DogFather Teaches Tiniest & Cutest 7 Week Old Puppy To Retrieve
  • The DogFather Cures Runaway Dog. . . Unveils The Truth Behind Dog Attacks . . .
  • Reveals The Shocking Truth About Separation Anxiety. . . Cures Grooming Fears. . .

One of the most significant distinctions in Sullivan’s methodology is not to use treats as rewards; in
fact, to never hand feed a dog a piece of food.  Using dog treats causes your dog to lose respect for your
authority, which is simply a recipe for disaster.  Whenever you feed a dog from your hand, he considers you as
submissive (or a subordinate in his pack), and therefore less willing to take direction from you unless you
continue to bribe him with treats.  Then what do you do when he is full of treats, or when something more
appealing like another dog comes around?  Dogs only need their food in their bowls – and the best reward
from you is praise and affection. “But I feel guilty if I don’t give my dog treats. He needs them to feel satisfied
and happy with his life…” you might say.  No, he doesn't. Mother dogs don’t use treats to teach their pups!  In
the world of the dog pack, the rewards of compliance are acceptance, harmony, order, physical love, affection
and the freedom to live safely, confidently and contentedly within the established boundaries. The dogs’ lives
are fully satisfying and complete. It is the innate, natural process within the created animal, and it works
beautifully. Using Sullivan’s training methods; you can successfully imitate this reward system.

Another of The DogFather’s amazing techniques involves using his
Command Collar™.  It is NOT an
electronic collar, shock collar, or noise emitting collar. It is manually operated and it is simply designed to
emulate a mother dog's natural corrective process.

More specifically, the Command Collar™ allows you to establish consistent control over your dog in all real life
situations, by gaining the focus of your dog, and discouraging him from repeating any undesirable behavior.
In fact, Sullivan can teach you how to trust your dog to be off leash in the “
Trust Zone” - the point at which an
owner can trust his dog to “behave” regardless of distractions and temptations, without needing to be
restrained by a leash or collar.

One of the most serious byproducts of ineffective dog handling is aggression. Millions of loved and cared for
family dogs bite unsuspecting strangers and even members of their own families simply because of a lack of
respect for human beings; respect that can never be gained through food reward or other types of bribery and
repetitive style training. Many children and adults alike are scarred for life and even killed by dogs they thought
“loved” them. Love does not equate to respect. A dog can love the person he attacks, but he loves them as a
follower, not a leader. (According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than 4.7
million reported dog bites annually in the United States; the majority of dog bites are never reported to local
authorities.)

Sadly, many of these dogs are destroyed because the passive, bribery style methods used to train them did
not gain control over their will, and, in fact, actually exacerbated the aggression issues. The owners were
fooled into thinking that every time their dogs sat for a treat they were on the road to achieving obedient dogs.
Little did they know that they were training their dogs to perform a superficial imitation of obedience that would
soon crumble under the distractions and temptations of real life.

These attacks and subsequent euthanizing would never have occurred if a logical praise and discipline training
method had been adopted from the day the dogs entered their human homes; a method that the dogs were
born to understand and respect.

Don Sullivan’s The Perfect Dog: Secrets to Training the Perfect Dog” System
(comprising two training DVDs, Sullivan’s self-designed Command Collar®, and a Freedom Training Lines set)
is available at www.theperfectdog.com or by calling toll-free 1-888-721-4097.   Says Sullivan, “One of the
greatest joys in my life is to hear from the thousands of people around the world who have used my system to
improve their relationship with their dog.  Your dog didn't have a choice who he went home with.  You owe it to
him to empower yourself with the knowledge and tools necessary to give him the best life possible.  Love alone
is not enough to have a well trained dog.”

write powerful action plans, encompassing big picture vision, and believe public
relations strategies should also consider sales expectations, in addition to creating
industry and consumer buzz.  I'll also look at:

    1) The product, service or business directly.
How good, effective, necessary is it?

    2) The market.  Do current trends indicate that what
you have is needed by the target group?

    3) How effective is your marketer?  That’s me -
